About Small Timber Pens

Welcome to the
web page of
Small Timber Pens

There is no more elegant writing instrument than a handcrafted wood pen. Wood is all natural and is a magnificent material to create one of a kind writing instruments.

All Small Timber Pens are handcrafted by myself and are original works of art. No two pens will ever be identical thanks to each and every piece of wood being unique. The wood for each pen is selected for its unique characteristics - its colour, grain, texture and natural beauty.

All wood pieces are handcrafted and turned on a lathe one at a time, each pen being unique, and affordable to purchase. Each pen is finished by hand using a cyanocrylate based compound resulting in a magnificent clear durable gloss finish. Your handcraft wood pen will truly be a unique piece of woodworking art.

Please take a moment and tour my web page. Hopefully you will see a pen that catches your eye, if you don’t please contact me to see if I can create something unique just for you!

Pen Care

Replacing a refill.

Refills for all Small Timber Pen are available at most local stationary stores or can be purchased from us for a nominal cost.

Slimline, Streamline, Rifle Cartridge and Euro-Designer Models (Cross refill) – to remove the refill, gently pull apart the two pen halves and unscrew the old refill. Insert the refill and tighten firmly. Push the two pen halves back together, turning the top barrel counterclockwise to align the grain patterns again.

Triton, Jr Gent and Churchill Models (standard rollerball refill) - to remove the refill, gentle unscrew the barrel from the lower body of the pen. Insert the new refill and tighten firmly.

Caring for your handcrafted wood pen.

Your Small Timber Pen is made from wood, a natural and durable material. The wood used in each pen is well seasoned and very stable, and will provide you with years of faithful service. However, as with any fine quality wood product care is required in order to ensure its longevity (i.e., do not immerse in water or do not expose your pen to extreme hot/cold weather conditions).

Each pen is finished by hand using a cyanocrylate based compound resulting in a clear durable gloss finish. Over time the shine may dull from normal use. To restore its finish, using a soft cloth apply a small amount of furniture wax, and buff.

The metal finish (pen tips and clips) can be cleaned using a damp soft cloth. Do not use any abrasives, as the abrasive will damage the plating.

Personal Pen Collection

A handcraft pen is not only functional; they are also a unique piece of art. Here are a few samples of a number of unique pens of art that I have handcrafted from various materials (stone, wood, and poly-resin). These pens are from my personal pen collection and I hope you enjoy seeing a few of my unique handcrafted custom pens.

 The Red Timex

The body of this pen is crafted from parts of a Timex watch cast in clear poly-resin. The design of the pen body provides a unique view of the internal pieces of the watch and watch face as they appear to be suspended in mid-air surrounding the pen barrel. The pen was handcrafted by me in my shop in Ashton and the blank was crafted by Marla Mills an artisan from British Columbia.

 A Small Piece of Italy

The olivewood burl I used to craft this pen was brought back from a trip I made to the small rural town of San Gimignano located in the Tuscany region of Italy. The colour and grain of this piece of wood is stunning and provides lots of great memories of the olive groves from a beautiful region of Italy.

 Hard as Stone

Made of green banded malachite Tru-Stone several words could be used to describe this pen such as unique, elegant or even sophisticated. Tru-Stone is made from 85% natural stone ore that is pigmented and combined with a gem resin. Handcrafted in my workshop this material is a challenge to work with but as the photo shows it is well worth the effort. When turned and polished the natural stone appearance is stunning.

 The Crown Jewels

This full bodied pen makes a statement! Handcrafted in my workshop from amboyna burl this pen encompasses the beauty of a rare, exotic hardwood from Southeast Asia while highlighting the ornate detail of the sterling silver decoration on the clip, centre band and finale of the pen.
